Vampire stores
The Vampire, by Philip Burne-Jones, 1897
Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of living creatures, regardless of whether they are undead or a living person/being.] Although vampiric entities have been recorded in many cultures, and may go back to "prehistoric times", the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe, although local variants were also known by different names, such as vrykolakas in Greece and strigoi inRomania. This increased level of vampire superstition in Europe led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism.
While even folkloric vampires of the Balkans and Eastern Europe had a wide range of appearance ranging from nearly human to bloated rotting corpses, it was interpretation of the vampire by the Christian Church and the success of vampire literature, namely John Polidori's 1819 novella The Vampyre that established the archetype of charismatic and sophisticated vampire; it is arguably the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century, inspiring such works as Varney the Vampire and eventually Dracula. The Vampyre was itself based on Lord Byron's unfinished story "Fragment of a Novel", also known as "The Burial: A Fragment", published in 1819.
However, it is Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula that is remembered as the quintessentialvampire novel and which provided the basis of modern vampire fiction. Dracula drew on earlier mythologies of werewolves and similar legendary demons and "was to voice the anxieties of an age", and the "fears of late Victorian patriarchy". The success of this book spawned a distinctive vampire genre, still popular in the 21st century, with books, films, video games, and television shows. The vampire is such a dominant figure in the horror genre that literary historian Susan Sellers places the current vampire myth in the "comparative safety of nightmare fantasy"
Origins of vampire beliefs)
Commentators have offered many theories for the origins of vampire beliefs, trying to explain the superstition – and sometimes mass hysteria – caused by vampires. Everything ranging from premature burial to the early ignorance of the body's decomposition cycle after death has been cited as the cause for the belief in vampires
Psychopathology
A number of murderers have performed seemingly vampiric rituals upon their victims. Serial killers Peter Kürten and Richard Trenton Chase were both called "vampires" in the tabloids after they were discovered drinking the blood of the people they murdered. Similarly, in 1932, an unsolved murder case in Stockholm, Sweden was nicknamed the "Vampire murder", because of the circumstances of the victim's death.[144] The late-16th-century Hungarian countess and mass murderer Elizabeth Báthory became particularly infamous in later centuries' works, which depicted her bathing in her victims' blood in order to retain beauty or youth
Film and television
Main article: Vampire film
Considered one of the preeminent figures of the classic horror film, the vampire has proven to be a rich subject for the film and gaming industries. Dracula is a major character in more films than any other but Sherlock Holmes, and many early films were either based on the novel ofDracula or closely derived from it. These included the landmark 1922 German silent filmNosferatu, directed by F. W. Murnau and featuring the first film portrayal of Dracula—although names and characters were intended to mimic Dracula's, Murnau could not obtain permission to do so from Stoker's widow, and had to alter many aspects of the film. In addition to this film was Universal's Dracula (1931), starring Béla Lugosi as the Count in what was the first talking film to portray Dracula. The decade saw several more vampire films, most notably Dracula's Daughter in 1936.
The legend of the vampire was cemented in the film industry when Dracula was reincarnated for a new generation with the celebrated Hammer Horror series of films, starring Christopher Leeas the Count. The successful 1958 Dracula starring Lee was followed by seven sequels. Lee returned as Dracula in all but two of these and became well known in the role.[167] By the 1970s, vampires in films had diversified with works such as Count Yorga, Vampire (1970), an African Count in 1972's Blacula, the BBC's Count Dracula featuring French actor Louis Jourdan as Dracula and Frank Finlay as Abraham Van Helsing, and a Nosferatu-like vampire in 1979's Salem's Lot, and a remake of Nosferatu itself, titled Nosferatu the Vampyrewith Klaus Kinski the same year. Several films featured female, often lesbian, vampire antagonists such as Hammer Horror's The Vampire Lovers (1970) based on Carmilla, though the plotlines still revolved around a central evil vampire character.
The pilot for the Dan Curtis 1972 television series Kolchak: The Night Stalker revolved around reporter Carl Kolchak hunting a vampire on the Las Vegas strip. Later films showed more diversity in plotline, with some focusing on the vampire-hunter, such as Blade in the Marvel Comics' Blade films and the film Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy, released in 1992, foreshadowed a vampiric presence on television, with adaptation to a long-running hit TV series of the same name and its spin-off Angel. Still others showed the vampire as protagonist, such as 1983's The Hunger, 1994's Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles and its indirect sequel of sorts Queen of the Damned, and the 2007 series Moonlight. Bram Stoker's Dracula was a noteworthy 1992 film which became the then-highest grossing vampire film ever.[168] This increase of interest in vampiric plotlines led to the vampire being depicted in films such as Underworld and Van Helsing, and the Russian Night Watch and a TV miniseries remake of 'Salem's Lot, both from 2004. The series Blood Ties premiered on Lifetime Television in 2007, featuring a character portrayed as Henry Fitzroy, illegitimate son of Henry VIII of England turned vampire, in modern-day Toronto, with a female former Toronto detective in the starring role. A 2008 series from HBO, entitled True Blood, gives a Southerntake to the vampire theme. Another popular vampire-related show is CW's The Vampire Diaries. The continuing popularity of the vampire theme has been ascribed to a combination of two factors: the representation of sexuality and the perennial dread of mortality.Another "vampiric" series that has recently come out is the Twilight Saga, a series of films based on the book series of the same name.

Astronomers hopeful of detecting extra-terrestrial life
The possibility of alien life
has provoked excitement for centuries
|
The chance of discovering life on other worlds is greater than ever, according to Britain's leading astronomer.
Lord Rees, the president of the Royal Society and Astronomer Royal, said such a discovery
would be a moment which would change humanity.
It would change our view of ourselves and our place in the cosmos, he said.
His comments come as scientists gather in London for an internationa
l conference to discuss the prospect of discovering extra-terrestrial life.
Scientists have been scanning the skies for radio broadcasts from int
elligent life for 50 years, and so far they have only heard static.
But the chances of discovering life now were better than ever, Lord Rees said.
He said: "Technology has advanced so that for the very first time we can actually have
the realistic hope of detecting planets no bigger than the earth orbiting other stars.
"(We'll be able to learn) whether they have continents and oceans, learning what type
of atmosphere they have.
"Although it is a long shot to be able to learn more about any life of them, then it's
tremendous progress to be able to get some sort of image of another planet,
rather like the earth orbiting another star."
The recent deployment of space telescopes capable of detecting earth-like
planets around distant stars now make it possible to focus the search.
"Were we to find life, even the simplest life, elsewhere that would clearly be one of the great
discoveries of the 21st Century.
"I suspect there could be life and intelligence out there in forms that we can't conceive.
"And there could, of course, be forms of intelligence beyond human capacity,
beyond as much as we are beyond a chimpanzee," he added.

Strange stories about the book
Many forums dealt with news that there were strange events occurred to anyone has this book when trying to read some chapters of it but it is not verified the truth of those allegations although that raises a question: Are those stories have been circulated to get away from going into those topics which set people aside of God and religion as claimed or this is what really happened?! , Here such stories (in the vernacular updated language as received):
Story 1
"You know "The sun of Major knowledge" book as it is a book of witchcraft and sorcery , once day a friend of my brother brought it and fortunately he had boycotted reading the first papers of this book because when anyone read those page , the jinn appear to him/her at once "May God protect us from them" , the book was very old even it is stitched with strange threads, when I read it , I read the most amazing things as it includes many things such as the names of the jinn "May God protect us from them", and how can anybody bring them and strange drawings and figures including the names of the planets .... When my brother brought that book at first in the same day afternoon , we were sitting in the external garden of our house, and suddenly someone came then my brother and my family said to me "Go to see what he wants", then I went towards him and when I saw him at first , I terrified and shocked form his frightened figure as his figure was really scary and very strange as his eyes are protruding and his smile is sly , then he began to shake hands and the first thing when my hand touched his hand I felt something strange to the point I started shaking with fear and felt cold in his hand and I was no longer afford that till my brother came and shacked hands with him and even my brother scared when he saw him but he kept pace with him normally and when I look at his legs I found them were very strange indeed as they were big and blown up from the front though he was short and my brother noticed that thing and told me "That strange person came to ask for a charity and I gave it to him" .. Then we used to see him every day at the mosque or the supermarket which are all were close to us .. Sure you may say now that this strange thing was not connected to the book, but after my brother returned the book to his owner , that person disappeared and we no longer saw him at all and when we discussed the topic, we were told that he was of the jinn "May God protect us from them" and God knows and I advise anyone that if he /she got this book by chance ,not to read it in order to avoid the terrifies. "
Story 2
"In short, someone requested to take it to copy it in the library, actually, when he began to copy it, the first thing which happened is that the glass bowl been broken by its own in front of me and suddenly the electricity cut off?? Only from this library?! And the other libraries were lightened as regular! It is said that this dirty book has servants of the jinn,! May God protect us of this book and thank God that I did not buy it .. and I myself read utmost astonishing talismans in it? and you may believe me or not? the first day I brought it from my friend to my house after 100 failed trials, my friend entered the hospital because of a tumor with unclear reason? and most of my buddies deserted me in the same day? And even when I contact them ,their landline phone was always busy? and when I asked them after returning the book! They astonished as in the same day there was none at home as they live alone? And they thought that it was interlacement of phone lines? Although I tried to contact them many times...??!!"
Story 3
"A person who was one of the best people in character, morals and knowledge, but I heard that he read this book "The sun of knowledge" and became crazy and he is still in our city till now touring the streets on his feet and not being tired of walking!! Those are three stories told by someone on the Internet and I related them to you then are those stories true? Is the book "The sun of major knowledge" having servants of the jinn? What is the truth about those who been hurt with madness when they read this book? Is this book of its fame that the rumors increased about it including those stories which we hear about? ".
the magical powers of precious stones

A popular legend tells that Jinn are afraid of wolves and according to this legend, If Jinn is seen by a wolf coming towards him he will not be able to move and if wolf urinate on him he will be transformed into a cameo , then Jinn will be locked into that shape , and he will stays in this way till finally falls into human hands, then he will appears in dreams visions of that human trying to offer his services in order to set him free from his transformed shape , This legend reminds us of the Aladdin’s magical lamp and genie inside, There is also there also a widespread belief established in people minds about the power and the influence of the precious stones as they (the stones) bring the livelihoodand eliminate the negative power of envy eye, or even help to
.increase sexual drive of men
Amulets used by the ancient Egyptians
These types of amulets differ in usage according to the social position, for instance the rich people used them made of gold and precious stones, while the public used the polished beads , Cyril Eldred mentioned in his book "The Pharaohs Jewelry" that jewelry were used to decorate the spell or the neck which evolved from a primitive form appearing in that amulet which was hanging from a string or strap surrounding the neck, which used by the primitive human to save himself/herself from the nature invisible forces, as he/she believed that it was sending the storms, floods, volcanoes and earthquakes, and cause diseases , Eldred also mentioned that the most commonly used amulets among the Ancient Egyptians were the spell amulets which made of beads, and that there was not a nation of the ancient world such as Egypt which made so much great and those huge quantities of beads to their sense of aesthetic aspect in the forms and colors of those natural materials as well as their belief in the magical powers of those beads , Also colors have had signs in the Ancient Egyptians jewelry, as they adopted 3 colors; red, green and blue, as the red color was symbolizing to the redness of the blood which is in the veins and granting life and activity, and the green color was symbolizing to the greenness of the crops that provide goods of the earth such as grains , fruits and vegetables, and the blue color was connecting with the sky and blueness where the sun swim in it (The sign of god Ra according to the Ancient Egyptians) and where the gods/goddess live in it and protect the humans and blessed them.
A Spreaded Myth
The idea of believing in the magical powers of the precious stones and beads moved (Read about The Legend of the Blue Bead) from generation to another until it reached today's world without knowing the source of this idea, or the origin of this myth, or even how to use them to prevent any particular thing and there are many beliefs prevail among the peoples of Iran, India and China that the "Jad" stone protects its owner from serious risk of heart disease, and the turquoise stone makes away many dangers and evils . In Nubia men ornamenting with a ring contains a white stone of precious stones as they believe that it protects its owner from being bitten by scorpions.
Bleeding Trees
It seems that bleeding is not only limited to the statues of the Virgin Mary as we see in Stigmata alleged phennomena which is considered by a number of the Christianity believers as miracles or signs from the God, In Iran , There is also a tree allegedly bleeds in the dawn of every Ashura day in every year (Ashura is an religious event for Shiit, it matches 10th of Muharram month in Islamic Calendar (Hijri Calendar) ,
In Shura day, Shiites remember the martyrdom of Al-Hussein (Prophet Mohammad's grandson) in Karbalaa (a city in Iraq) in 680 AC or 61 Hijri , Some Shiites believes the blood that is shedding from the tree is a sign that represents Al-Hussein's blood, Others believe that tree bleeds sadly for murder of Al-Hussein, A crowd of people gathered to seek blessing with what being bleed from the tree. News of this quickly spreaded in the Arab Web-forums in recent years, But there is no actual verification of red fluid which seeps through the tree branches or discover its reason.
Another Tree in Iraq
The Iraqi newspaper AlKala recently published a story of another bleeding tree where an Iraqi citizen confirmed that he saw a red liquid like blood flowing profusely out from a tree called Nabk ad it is planted in his house garden , this happens on the afternoon of same Ashura day.
- Mr. Sadiq Jafar Elewy, who described what happened as (A divine miracle) because it coincided with the anniversary of Al-Hussein martyrdom ,said that the flow of this red liquid continues for forty days, and starts every year little after the mid-afternoon of the tenth day of Muharram and ends on the twentieth of Safar (second month in Islamic Calendar).
-Elewy also added to AlKalaa Iraqi weekly Newspaper which reported this story that the strangest thing is the timing of the flowing of (blood), which begins in the same time of Al- Hussein martyrdom, pointing out that he is going to examine this red liquid laboratory to identify its components.
- Mr. Sadiq, who lives in the Arabian Gulf district in Baghdad mentioned that this phenomenon started after afternoon prayers on Ashura Day with coming out a little amount of red fluid substance reached twenty centimeters in length and then the situation has developed later as shown in the image which surprised everybody saw it.
Possible Explanations
Unfortunately, there is no emphasis around the nature of that red liquid which is claimed to be a blood so far, but science has a ready explanation for the trees bleeding phenomenon where the reason is due to fungus or blights infect the tree such as insects like the branches beetle and another types of infections. And the question remains here: Why this bleeding occurs only on Ashura Day (As was alleged) ?
